In many countries today, crime novels and tv crime dramas are becoming more and more popular. Why are they popular? What is your opinion?
With the rapid increase in criminal activities across the world, especially in developing countries, the awareness material related to these incidents has gone up tremendously which has led to the rising popularity of TV shows & novels related to crime. As far as I am concerned, this popularity is due to the awareness that these spread amongst the masses along with the element of suspense. In my opinion, these should not be aired publicly since they may give new ideas to budding criminals.
There are multiple reasons which contribute to the popularity of such content. First and foremost, they make the public aware of the current criminal events that are taking place globally. This helps people in being more careful. Moreover, since these are based on real-life stories of the victims, the drama and the suspense make them more entertaining for the viewers. For instance, one of the most popular crime-related shows in India, Crime Patrol, has higher TRP than comedy shows because the stories that they cover are based on recent criminal cases that were solved locally. Therefore, such content is quite popular in society.
However, I really think that such content should not be telecasted in the public domain since it may give rise to new criminals. This is due to the fact that the visuals and the stories are depicted in such a detailed manner that everyone is able to understand them deeply. As a result, wrongdoers may get new ideas to commit crimes in newer ways and would know how to avoid the law/police. For example, the number of thefts in Bihar, India has recently skyrocketed and the police are unable to catch the criminals since they did not leave any evidence on the crime scene. Hence, I am convinced that there is a big role played by these TV series in the rising number of crimes internationally.
To conclude, the content that is shown on TV or web series is certainly full of thrill and everyone likes to watch it, but, I am certainly against such content shown to the public as it may be detrimental to the world.
